Pet Care in Emergencies
Be prepared with emergency supplies for your pet! Use a 3.5 gallon bucket or container with a waterproof lid. Fill it with items like those listed below:
- Three day supply of food in waterproof packages (Always keep a two week supply of pet food in your home.)
- Three day supply of water for drinking and to clean wounds (The recommended amount of water per day is one quart per animal. Higher amounts may be needed in the summer or by larger animals.)
- Emergency Mylar blanket
- Collar and leash (In disasters always put a collar and leash on your dog so they can be identified as owned dogs and not strays.)
- Toys
- 2 collapsible bowls
- 10 water purification tablets
- Standard pet first aid kit
- 12 sanitation bags
- Emergency pet alert sticker
- Medical records and medications if needed
- Current pictures of your pet and yourself as proof of ownership
