Get Prepared

Being prepared for an emergency is the key to staying safe. In Northwest Arkansas in recent years, we have faced tornados, thunderstorms, heavy rain and flooding, crippling ice storms, and drought. In addition, home fires and other emergency situations have damaged homes or left residents without electricity, heat, or phone service for extend periods of time.

To prepare for emergency situations, the federal government has asked individuals to do four things:

  • get an emergency supply kit
  • make a family emergency plan
  • be informed about the different types of emergencies that could occur
  • know how to respond

Get Connected

Organizations and businesses in Northwest Arkansas have joined together to help Benton and Washington County residents learn how to prepare their families, their homes, and their pocket books for emergency situations. This website highlights the annual NWA Community Preparedness Fair and provides links and information that you need to help keep your family safe. It will help you get connected to the right information! Download an event flyer.

Get Involved

Plan to attend the 2010 NWA Preparedness Fair! Last year's Fair was a great success. Over 3,500 residents residents of Northwest Arkansas attended the fair and obtained information to prepare their families, neighborhoods, and community for a variety of emergency situations.

Community groups worked together to help residents gather information on dealing with a variety of severe weather conditions, maintaining short term food and water supplies, emergency cooking and heating methods, and dealing with everything from downed electric lines to emotional needs in times of crises. Kids were trained in fire safety, identity theft, and staying safe. 182 units of blood were collected by the Red Cross. Thanks to all of you who gave blood!

On this site, you will find information presented at previous NWA Emergency Preparedness Fairs. Feel free to print and distribute this valuable information in your neighborhoods and community groups.

Give Blood

The American Red Cross is sponsoring a community blood drive in conjunction with the 2010 NWA Emergency Preparedness Fair. Plan to donate blood to help fill our local blood bank.

Donation times are Friday, August 20 and Saturday, August 21 at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints at 1101 McCollum Drive in Bentonville.

By failing to prepare, you are preparing to fail."
